Galelyn Williams: New Works On Paper

Well known but departing from the genre of three dimensional work, Galelyn Williams' new work is executed by altering old, found, black & white Victorian photographs with elusive washes and strange additions. Brilliantly redefined, the figurative images result in a haunting and mesmerizing collection of other-worldly imagery.

Michael Himovitz Gallery Presents: miniatures

A group exhibition featuring many of the Gallery Artists as well as some new friends. Artists have created works based upon the criteria of the work being no larger than 4" x 4" (2 dimensional) and 4" x 4" x 4" (sculptural). The common response by the artists has been that the process was extraordinarily challenging, but that the results have been rewarding. With well over 100 miniature pieces on exhibit, the Gallery has been transformed into a place of enchantment.

George Rivera: Portraits of the Love of Life

Fourteen new works in oil measuring 8" x 10" each. The work depicts portraiture rendered in deep, subtle tones and washes that translate dramatic, precise renderings both stark and theatrical. It's life that George Rivera loves, even at it's darkest moments.

Acme 25 Show

January 9 - February 10, 2001

ACME 25 SHOW

Michael Himovitz Gallery will feature the 25th Anniversary Group Exhibition of the Acme Gallery. Founded on January 16, 1976 by artist David E. Stone, Acme Gallery was the first gallery to open on Del Paso Boulevard and the first artist-run establishment in Sacramento. Although short-lived, it produced some of the most unusual and challenging exhibitions in all media ever seen in River City. Many artists who showed at Acme have gone on to achieve international critical acclaim. The new show incudes artists from that era as well as the present. To reflect the innovative spirit of Acme Gallery, panel discussions, film showings and art performances are scheduled throughout the exhibition's run.

Opening and closing receptions will be on January 13 and February 10 from 6-10 PM.
